4 Week Throwing Course | June 2025 | Saturday Mornings

This 4 week throwing course is suitable for complete beginners, or those of you who may have already attended another beginners course or taster class.

What to expect

The classes will be relatively small, with a maximum of 7 people on the course.

The cost of the class is £185 per person, which covers all materials and firings. Aprons and hand towels will be provided.

• Weeks 1 & 2: Getting to grips with the basics of wheel-throwing. This will involve demonstrations and hands-on learning of how to centre clay on the wheel and throw cylinders. From there, we’ll move onto throwing specific forms such as bowls or cups.
• Week 3: Refining. We’ll select up to 4 pots each to work on. We’ll trim and tidy up these pots, and at this stage can also decorate with carving techniques and add handles. Between this week and next, the finessed pots will then be dried out and bisque-fired.
• Week 4: Glazing. We’ll use brush-on glazes to decorate and finish the pots. After this class your work will be glaze fired.

You’ll be emailed when your fired work is ready to collect, which will be up to 4 weeks after the last class.

Preparing for the course

• Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and sensible shoes
• Long hair will need to be tied back
• Long fingernails are likely to dig into the clay, so clipped fingernails are recommended for throwing

Cancellation Policy

Please ensure that you are able to attend all four of the dates listed above as there are no catch up classes and each class is required to move onto the following.

If you cancel your booking at any time, a full refund can only be issued if the place can be subsequently filled.

In the event of unforeseen circumstances in which you’re unable to attend a class, such as illness, I will of course endeavour to accommodate this and we can discuss options should such circumstances arise.
