Private 2hr Throwing Taster Class
I'm not currently taking any bookings for taster classes, please sign up to my newsletter as I'll email subscribers when bookings re-open.
This 2 hour taster class is ideal for complete beginners, to try out throwing before committing to a longer course or for anyone who has already taken a beginners course or taster class and would like one-to-one guidance.
The taster classes make a wonderful gift, and I can email a gift voucher to you, simply make a note in the 'notes' section at checkout.
During this class you’ll learn how to centre clay on the wheel and practice throwing cylinders, and from there move onto throwing specific forms such as bowls or tumblers. At the end of the class you will select up to 4 pots which I’ll then fire with a transparent glaze.
You’ll be emailed when your fired work is ready to collect, which will be up to 6 weeks after the class.
Where & when
Taster classes are held at Glasgow Ceramics Studio, 77 Hanson Street, G31 2HF on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
How to book
Once you’ve booked a taster class, I’ll email you within 3 working days to arrange a date for the class, which must be within 6 months of the booking. Please note classes are only held on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
About your booking
The class will consist of only people on your booking. As this is a communal studio, there may be other studio members in the wheel area at the same time.
The cost of the class covers all materials and firings. Aprons and hand towels will be provided. The class costs £95 for one person, plus £55 for each additional person.
Suitable for ages 16 and above. Under 18s must be accompanied by an adult.
Preparing for the class- Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty, and sensible shoes
- Long hair will need to be tied back
- Long fingernails are likely to dig into the clay, so clipped fingernails are recommended for throwing
Accessibility
Throwing can be a strenuous activity, especially when working at the wheel for periods of time. You’ll be sat at the wheel for the duration of the class, leaning over the wheel, so we encourage students to move and stretch from time to time.
If you have any injuries or medical conditions that may affect your ability on the wheel, or would like more information or have any questions, please feel free to get in touch ahead of booking.
We have a range of different sized pottery wheels, with some able to change direction, accommodating both left- and right-handed students.
Glasgow Ceramics Studio is on the ground floor of WASPS artist studios; the building and studio are wheelchair accessible. Unfortunately our wheel area isn’t wheelchair accessible, and if this would be a barrier to your learning, please get in touch as we can look at alternatives arrangements.
The studio can be noisy, especially during the throwing classes as the larger, older wheels are loud when in use, The course will be taking place in a working studio, so there’ll be ambient background sounds of studio members working.
There are separate male and female bathrooms, and a gender neutral accessible bathroom all on the ground floor, the same level as the studio.
Cancellation Policy
Refunds are not offered on Taster Classes, in the event of unforeseen circumstances in which you’re unable to attend the arranged date, we will arrange an alternative date which must also be within 6 months of the booking date.
By booking a Taster Class, you are agreeing to the cancellation policy.
